Keiko Mita has been designing timeless and elegant jewelry with a difference since 2002 when she founded K.Mita Design in New York City. Prior to that she was the design director for a high-end jewelry firm in Osaka, Japan. Keiko discovered metal work while studying fine arts at Hokkaido University of Education. Initially she produced large embossed works, but eventually she turned her attention to sculpture, objects of art, and ultimately jewelry. Later she studied Jewelry design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Inspired by the sandy shores, spectacular scenery and alpine flora on the small Japanese island where she was born, everything is about movement and texture and color. Working primarily in gold and mixed metals, her three dimensional collections combine complex shapes and undulating patterns [sweeping landscapes] with diamonds, pearls and other precious and semi-precious stones that echo the natural surroundings of her youth. She calls her principle collection Sand Dune because it captures the ever changing texture and scenery of deserts and sandy beaches in geometric and organic forms.
