2018 has been a big year. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married and are expecting a baby, the What the Fluff challenge was all over the internet, a floating cartoon Trump floated over London and Harry Redknapp became King of the Jungle and a national treasure.

It’s been a big year for fashion as well, with Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell reuniting on the Louis Vuitton runway, countless brands going fur-free and fashion brands and runways have been more diverse and inclusive than ever, like Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show, New York Fashion Week and Virgil Ablou being appointed Louis Vuitton’s first African-American creative director.

It’s been a busy year for fashion and jewellery, with statements made through clothes and jewels on red carpets and runways. There have been some important and groundbreaking statements, with actresses wearing all black in solidarity of Time’s Up and there have been some blunders - who can forget THAT coat worn by Melania Trump?

We have chosen our three favourite jewellery looks from 2018 and show how to recreate them yourself.

Meghan Markle’s bridal look

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot in May 2018 and since then has been a fashion icon, with the media hailing her looks and gossiping about how she’s breaking royal protocol with her fashion choices. A look that she’ll always be remembered for is her wedding dress. Her gorgeous simple white dress sat slightly off the shoulder and her veil was held back with a diamond and platinum bandeau tiara, creating a modern and timeless look. Her tiara perfectly complimented her dress and had an art deco quality, wowing the crowd that flocked in their thousands to Windsor Castle to catch a glimpse of the happy couple. If you were inspired by Meghan’s look and would like to recreate it for your own wedding, Krausz Jewellery have an extensive and sparkling range of headpieces, perfect for your big day. The Crystal Flower Headpiece uses vintage materials and freshwater pearls, perfect for a modern and contemporary wedding theme.

Meghan changed into a second dress by Stella McCartney for the evening reception and was photographed waving with a dazzling blue ring on her finger. Meghan’s something borrowed and something blue was in the form of Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring. The Oval Aquamarine Ring with Diamond Band from Oh My Christine Jewellery is chic, feminine and would be a perfect alternative engagement ring.

Golden Globes all black everything

The Golden Globes kicked off the year and not only celebrated the incredible films, actors and actresses but also sent a powerful and important message. Many attendees wore black in solidarity of the Time’s Up Movement, speaking out against sexual harassment and gender inequality in the movie industry and the world. Some guests also wore #MeToo pins and many activists attended the awards, like Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo movement. The runway became a place to speak up about injustices and the all black outfits became a beautiful and shocking statement. Along with the black dresses, were silver accents, to add sparkle to the outfits but were subtle enough to keep the dress and the message the main focus.

Actresses like Reese Witherspoon, Angelina Jolie and Jessica Chastain (pictured) wore drop silver earrings to add something extra to their looks. The Large Double Marquise Dangles are minimal and beautiful, framing the face and drawing attention down to the neck and outfit. Others like Viola Davis (pictured), Emilia Clarke and Salma Hayek wore oversized statement silver necklaces. The ROX Bamboo Collar is a necklace that gives off a decadent appearance that drips down the neck and gives a strong statement look, apt for the Golden Globes red carpet moment.

The Met Gala’s Heavenly Jewellery

The Met Gala’s theme in 2018 was  ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and Catholic Imagination’. This theme allowed the models and celebrities that attended to go OTT with their outfits and to make a statement. The theme was the most controversial Met Gala inspiration with the topic of religious appropriation debated thoroughly after the event, but many celebrities celebrated the Church and religious iconography. For example, Zendaya dressed as Catholic icon Joan of Arc in Versace, Sarah Jessica Parker donned a headpiece detailing the nativity, Ariana Grande’s dress was inspired by the Sistine Chapel and halos and wings were everywhere to represent the angels.

Cardi B wowed in an embellished Moschino gown, flaunting her pregnancy. The dress was embellished with encrusted red and blue gems and she looked like she was glowing. The Ruby Hexagon Link Bracelet is a geometric design with ruby gemstones, similar to Cardi B’s dress and a simple elegant way to add more colour into any outfit.

Rihanna stunned the crowd dressed as a Pope, with Cartier jewellery to complete the look. The pearl and jewel encrusted Pope hat had a subtle cross peeking through. Add a cross to any look for a simple and elegant design. Keep it subtle with the Gargoyle Cross Pendant or go all out with the Rose Gold Medium White Diamond Cross Necklace for extra wow-factor.
