Alison Fern’s jewellery encompasses sophistication, elegance, quality, and individuality. She said: “My design sensibilities swing between delicate and feminine, and then a desire for something a bit tougher and with an edge. I take inspiration from shape and form, my background, and a love of art.”

Renowned for her unique, yet affordable pieces inspired by, and created for, everyday life, let's take a look at her wonderful brand.

How did your brand begin?

“My brand began whilst i was working for TATE. My friends and colleagues became my first jewellery clients, and the seed to one day developing my own brand was planted. Inspired by the ever-changing and creative environment, I started by making my own pieces to wear while hanging out with friends and in the office.”

When did you first fall in love with jewellery and knew you wanted to become a designer?

“Before all of this I spent my childhood playing and dreaming by the Suffolk coastline.  It was my mum who gave me my first beads and from there I started teaching myself new techniques and working with new materials.”

Yellow Gold Filled Ida Earrings - £70.00

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

My design sensibilities swing between delicate and feminine, and then a desire for something a bit tougher and with an edge. Shape and form frequently take inspiration from my background and love of art.”

How is your jewellery made?

“Every piece of jewellery is handcrafted by me personally.  That’s an important part of the brand for me. Sometimes I sketch but I also often make samples of my designs and wear them myself before I decide if the design is going to be developed.”

Yellow Gold Filled Hannah Necklace - £79.00

Can you recall a particular moment with a client that will stay with you forever?

“I recently had a customer who wrote me the most poetic description of what it was like to be wearing the Luna earrings and how they were ‘enchanting little discs’ and like ‘little gold baubles… smiling’.  It really made my day!”

How do you want someone to feel when they wear your jewellery?

“Most of all I want people to feel happy when they wear my jewellery, and like themselves, that’s really important. I hope my jewellery also makes the wearer feel special.”

Yellow Gold Filled Sterling Silver Lucy Earrings - £44.00

If you could only wear one piece from your collection, what would it be and why?

The Jack single earring is a current favourite of mine as it just adds a bit of an edge to an outfit when going out.  I am also wearing the Heston anklet a lot at the moment. The jewellery I definitely wear the most though are the Bexley hoops.”

What's your favourite quote?

“I’m a fan of Anthony Burrill and I have one of his posters which says ‘Work hard and be nice to people’. It’s very simple but it goes a long way!”
