Founder and designer of FARRA, Donna Liu started the brand in 2010 after graduating from Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a Master’s degree in Product Design. Since its emergence, FARRA has released stylish and passionate collections every season and has become one of the world’s most reputed emerging brand, with both domestic and international presence and prowess.

FARRA’s designs are inspired by nature and different cultures, specifically forests, flowers, lights and fruits. Handcrafted in Hong Kong by skilled artisans, FARRA’s collections are affordable, unique, creative and luxurious. The beaded jewellery from FARRA is recognised as Donna’s distinctive style, with its striking colours and classical design.

Donna believes that “Jewellery is beautiful treasure for humans” and is a way to express positive emotions. She wants her customers to feel happy and confident when they wear her pieces.

   

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

Most of my designs are inspired by the natural world, such as the forest, flowers and fruit. Some of my design ideas come from artwork or emotional memory.


How do you source your materials and gemstones?

I traveled many years to source beads and findings. The beads come from all around the globe. Comparing the findings from the US, Korea, Japan, and China, I finally decided to use what I felt were the nicest and they were the ones that were made in Japan.

Design, be unique, classical and creative. Be luxurious but also affordable.


How do you want someone to feel when they wear your jewellery?

I want them to feel happy, confident and loved.

      


If you hadn't become a designer, what would you be doing?

I’d probably be a ceramic artist. I’ve got an Art degree from TsingHua University, so I am familiar with painting, ceramic and sculpture. If I hadn't become a designer, I would definitely still work in the art industry.

Do you have any exciting future plans and where do you see your brand in 5 years?

We are planning to open a boutique in New York, exhibit more trade shows and carry many stockists in the UK.

      


If you could travel to one place in the world right now, where would it be and why?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, because I am interested in art history and origination of culture. The art knowledge and vision drives me to think deeply and philosophically.
