MAMM + MYRGH Goldsmiths was founded by mother-daughter team Amanda Maltwood and Greta Kaniok. Amanda boasts over 30 years of experience in the jewellery industry ad Greta is a freelance designer who specialises in Computer Aided Design.

Together, they combine their expertise to create distinct jewellery in the heart of Cornwall. Influenced by seaweed found along the rugged Cornish coastline, their designs are full of rustic charm and intriguing textures. We chat with the pair to find out more about their designs.

How did your brand begin?

“MAMM + MYRGH literally translates to ‘mother + daughter’ in the ancient Cornish language. So ‘Mamm’ is Amanda and ‘Myrgh’ is Greta. Like most great business ideas do, it began at the kitchen table with a coffee!”

What inspires your designs?

“For this particular collection, the John Waterhouse painting ‘A Mermaid’ was the inspiration. We imagined her as a modern-day muse and what treasures she would collect and wear from the seashore. Also, the rugged and raw Cornish coastline inspires us."

How do you want someone to feel when they wear your jewellery?

“We want to embrace a woman's natural beauty to empower them to be bold and dream big.

‘Who would be
A mermaid fair,
Singing alone,
Combing her hair’

Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem 'The Mermaid' (1830)."

If you could only wear one piece from your collection, which would it be?

“Our Long Seaweed Choker makes you feel pretty special. Its bold and daring, yet delicate and subtle. It’s so versatile that it can be worn over a t shirt or with a beautiful dress. Or if you’re feeling really daring, just add a smile!”

How do you wind down after a long day in the studio?

“Ocean swimming in Cornwall is the best way to shake off a long day in the workshop, followed by a mug of something really hot! Come rain or shine, it’s such an energy booster and makes you feel alive.”
