Even before founding her brand NH-Art, designer Nanja Helmers had always loved working on jewellery and art. Drawing inspiration from nature, colours, and shapes, Nanja designs breathtaking pieces for men and women alike. Over the years she has used many techniques and developed her own distinctive style - her work features resin, silk, cotton, and other precious metals.

We love the ethos behind NH-Art, how did your brand begin?
My brand NH-Art started about 3 years ago, but before that I always worked on jewellery and art. But 3 years ago I decided I wanted to make jewellery and art for a living, so I started NH-Art.

When did you first fall in love with jewellery and knew you wanted to become a designer?
When I was just a kid I loved jewellery and especially gemstones and sparkles.

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?
Everywhere, in nature, but also from colours or shapes. It just pops up in my head.

How is your jewellery made?
Everything is made by hand. In every piece I put a lot of love and attention. Every piece is special to me.

Are there any specific manufacturing/crafting techniques you use?
There are several techniques. I work with resin, but I like to combine resin with other materials. Sometimes to include something, but also for casting. It depends on what material I work with which technique I use.

Are there any celebrities you would love to see wearing your designs?
A lot! My designs are mostly colourful, so it is a big dream of mine if a celebrity would wear something on a gala event with a beautiful dress.

How do you want someone to feel when they wear your beautiful jewellery?

My jewellery is made to make you feel special. I always make just one piece, so everything I create is unique; just like the people i'm designing for.

If you could only wear one piece from your collection, what would it be and why?
My butterfly necklace because I love butterflies and this piece is easy to wear and compliments many outfits.

If you hadn't become a designer, what would you be doing?
Probably something with colours and art. I love to create and to work with colours.

What music do you play in the studio whilst you’re working?
I like two very different music styles, relaxing nature sounds, but also rock. So it depends on the mood I am as to which one I choose.

What's your favourite quote?
Live every day like it's your last, life is short.

What meal is your signature dish?

Winding down after a day in the studio is sometimes difficult for a designer, what do you do to help this process?
It's always very difficult for me to stop working, but when my husband has made dinner I stop - I love to spend time with him.
