Sometimes jewellery design is in the blood; we introduce you to some of our favourite family-run jewellery brands from all over the world.
Nick Hubbard Jewellery
Nick Hubbard created his first jewellery collection back in 1996, taking inspiration from his love of miniaturisation. A tall, quiet and gentle man with a warmth and compassion that radiated on to everyone around him, Nick sadly passed away in 2013. However his devoted wife, Jean, and his two daughters, Philippa and Elizabeth, have continued the business in honour of their beloved Nick using his sketchbooks full of designs, ideas and drawings as their jewellery inspiration. Today, Nick’s charming and intricate designs are handcrafted in a converted old bakery overlooking the Staffordshire countryside.
Gillian Crawford is the founder and designer of charming Scottish jewellery brand, Lily Blanche. Named after and inspired by her grandmother’s extraordinary life, the collection offers ornate, vintage inspired jewellery with a fascinating history. Gillian has fond memories of rummaging through her grandmother’s jewellery box where she would discover beautiful and exotic pieces. She has taken inspiration from these vintage designs and given them a modern twist by combining them with outstanding 21st century design.
Based in Paris, sisters Sonia and Katia launched their contemporary jewellery brand, Gaydamak, in 2009. Both graduates from the New York Gemological Institute of America, the sisters are well known for their unconventional yet wearable designs that push the boundaries of traditional jewellery. From their signature hand bracelets to their asymmetric earrings, their forward-thinking aesthetic is aimed for cosmopolitan women like themselves, resulting in radiant yet edgy pieces.
