ClonferoDaPonte’s founder Catarina Schippinger is motivated by the need to create pieces that are at the cutting edge of modernity. Her brand is the pioneer for an elegant, understated and easy-to-wear jewellery collection.

ClonferoDaPonte is a family name that derives from northern Italy, and is a reflection of the brand’s core values. “Ponte” literally means bridge in Italian, and ClonferoDaPonte definitely is the bridge to the future of jewellery design. This is a future where women are not afraid to express themselves.

The brand is well known for handmade bohemian fine jewellery, that can fit into the everyday life of the wearer. The collection is full of versatile and diverse pieces that can be worn on their own, or can be easily combined for a striking finish.

Catarina finds perfection in imperfection. Her jewellery is created using an expert casting and setting process, and every aspect is completed by hand. She takes inspiration from religious, cultural and spiritual symbols.

How did your brand begin?

The brand did not begin in a single moment. It was a long story that took over 25 years. ClonferoDaPonter started officially in November of  2016, but it has always been a part of my journey.

Values are really important to us at JewelStreet. What are your core brand values?

We make handmade items that are made with fine materials. They must be playful, but also easy to wear at the same time. The pieces do not have an obvious bling, but are more elegant, understated and sparkly.

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

I get a lot of inspiration in all kinds of symbols, and I am interested in what different meanings they have. This includes religious, cultural and spiritual symbols. I love the way that jewellery is worn in India or Africa, where it really shows who you are.

How is your jewellery made?

It is a handmade using a casting and setting process in a small manufacturer in India. This takes place mostly in Jaipur, but also Mumbai.

How do you want someone to feel when they wear your jewellery?

I want them to feel adorned on the inside and outside. If you feel good about yourself, you want to show it.

If you hadn't become a designer, what would you be doing?

I am an engineer in physics, and I come from a very academic household. Although I have been totally fascinated by jewellery and design, I didn't consider it as a profession when i was younger. Now that I am over 50, I wanted to change my life and pursue my passion.

If you could travel to one place in the world right now, where would it be and why?

I love Italy and Mallorca. I love the light there, and I love to feel the sun on my belly, and to hear the sound of the waves of the sea crashing.

What's the biggest style mistake you've ever made??

Shoulder pads :)

How do you ensure you’ve got a good work/life balance?

I have a garden and love working there. Having your fingers in the soil to plant flowers and watch them grow keeps you grounded and grateful.
