Brian and I met online, more specifically on Facebook, just over ten years ago. I was not interested in a relationship because I am disabled and was in a wheelchair. I am English, but I was in New York at the time and he was in London.  We became friends quickly. Although a relationship seemed unlikely due to our circumstances, Brian flew over to meet me and the sparks were undeniable! I moved back to the UK about 18 months later, and we moved in together.

It was a few short months after four years of Brian undergoing intensive treatment and chemotherapy for 2 bouts of stage 4 bowel cancer. I became his nurse during that time, especially when he was finally home from hospital, and after a necessary ileostomy which has left him with a permanent colostomy bag.  Our house is always filled with boxes of supplies for him.

It was late at night and it was my birthday. I was enjoying a bit of relaxation on the sofa when Brian came in with a large glittery box for me, and he sat on the arm of the sofa next to me. I opened the box to find multiple boxes inside of each other, like Russian dolls. In the smallest box were some of his medical supplies. Imagine what I was thinking at that moment... I turned to look at Brian, and he had a jewelry box with an absolutely stunning engagement ring inside, and he declared his love for me and asked me to be his wife!

I was speechless for the first time in my life, and kept asking him if he was serious! After 10 years together, I never expected this to ever happen. Of course I said yes. Although our life together has not been easy due to both of our medical problems, it was easy to fall in love, and we have two beautiful boys to complete our love and family.
