Join us in a five-minute chat with jewellery designer Nicole De Gale McIntosh of the luxury jewellery brand NIKKIBIEDES as she tells us about how she started her business and much more!
How did your brand begin?
I was raised between Saint Lucia and Grenada, two treasures in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. From a tender age, I was always surrounded by such a stimulating environment. My mother’s creative genes played an important role in inspiring me and helping me to harness my own abilities.
The brand first began with my ability to layer beads. That's what I became known for among Islandistas, giving birth to the brand name NIKKIBIEDES. I also had a rebellion against societal pressures and wanted to pursue an unconventional career. So, I decided that I wanted to join the flourishing industry of Caribbean designers making a name for themselves Internationally. I truly love nothing more than sharing the beauty of my homelands and the vibrancy of my culture and heritage through my work.
Where do you draw inspiration from for your designs?
NIKKIBIEDES is an ode to the timeless classiness of wearing pearls, but with a fun and modern twist. Each piece is inspired by a life well lived, whether it be immersed in the Caribbean Sea or trailing the coastlines of Corfu. From Akoya and freshwater pearls to semi-precious stones, you’ll find that each collection is romantic and comfortable while still making an impact.
How are your products made?
Each piece is handcrafted with love and attention to detail, using high quality materials such as, gorgeous akoya and freshwater pearls as well as semi-precious stones.
How do you want someone to feel when they wear/use your designs?
I want NIKKIBIEDES to make you feel joyful, in love and enchanted. NIKKIBIEDES is style, sophistication and affordable luxury for women who delight in experimenting with fashion. To own and wear NIKKIBIEDES is to embrace freedom, empowerment and big dreams… that come true.
Do you have any exciting future plans and where do you see your brand in 5 years?
In 5 years, I see NIKKIBIEDES flourishing tremendously. I’d like to keep on expanding and creating a mark, both regionally and internationally. In 5 years, we hope to become a global brand. That’s the goal!
What are your go-to style tips?
My go-to style tip would be to always keep it classy! Do not try to always keep up with the trends and be open to experimenting with different styles.
What drew you to JewelStreet?
I admired the way JewelStreet has managed to create a platform for artisans and other designers around the world. I believe our pieces are very unique and conjure up such a luxurious, romantic, empowering feeling that I would love more women outside of the Caribbean to experience.
Thank you for talking with us Nicole!
