Pantone have gone green for 2017’s Colour of the Year, but not green with envy. Described as a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s green revive, restore and renew”, Greenery is an uplifting, pick-me-up shade of green that’s invigorating and refreshing.
Pantone introduced their Colour of the Year in 2010 and since then have been predicting the colour (or colours, 2016 saw both rose quartz and serenity chosen) will be big in the world of fashion and interior in the upcoming year. Some have been accurate and others have not, so we are interested to see if this zesty hue takes off in 2017.
In the world of jewellery and gemstones, peridot is certainly the gemstone which matches Greenery the closest. Known for its lemony-green hue, peridot jewellery is set to have a surge of popularity this year thanks to Pantone, and we couldn’t be happier about it. NYC brand Madstone Design use a vibrant array of coloured gemstones in their Melting Ice collection, one being peridot. They have artfully set zesty peridot with diamonds to create a statement pair of earrings that seemingly have gems falling from the ear. For something slightly more understated and more affordable, Joely Rae Jewelry have mismatched different sized peridot together in a rose gold setting.
For a subtle pop of colour, we love this classic tennis bracelet design from British brand QP Jewellers which features natural Arizona peridot stones, totalling 5.5 carats and set in 9kt gold around the entire bracelet. New York designer Paolo Costagli channels his appreciation for modern and clean geometries with his Very PC collection, which embodies bold angles of reverse-set gemstones. This bold pendant transforms a classic peridot gemstone in a vivid creation with dimension, volume and brilliance.
