Diamoire Jewels are London based jewellery designers of luxurious fine jewellery that’s lovingly handmade brand new. The brand was founded by Derek Shemlon Nyuydzewira, whose mission is to create jewellery as individual as the person who wears it, using environmentally sustainable methods. We chat to Derek about his collection.
When did you fall in love with jewellery?
“Becoming a jewellery designer was achieved working alongside experienced jewellers, my love for jewellery was my first design of an 18kt White Gold Emerald Ring. My first successful product motivated me to continue this journey by sharing my designs with jewellery lovers and jewellers who enjoy the look of beautiful jewellery. I have a very special view on jewellery design, for me jewellery is an element and subject that seduces me due to its closeness to people. It’s a world of magic, desire and dreams. Making jewellery is extremely special, you don't just buy an object you buy an emotion, the moment and the story.”
What drove you to start Diamoire Jewels?
“Making a difference one product design at a time with technology. Diamoire Jewels is a fresh viewpoint to the world of fine jewellery - creating your own personal sense of style and uniqueness by creating pieces of unconditional love, divine protection and empowerment. They say that the right stones call for you, as you may need a certain stone at a particular point in your life for additional self-love, healing protection or happiness. Our jewellery is designed to bring comfort, inner-peace, balance and harmony to its wearers. Jewellery which can be passed down through future generations.”
"People want jewellery that is unique for a purpose."
How did you get into the jewellery industry?
“I trained as a CAD Technician in 2014 using basic tools and commands to draw and edit curves, create surfaces of basic jewels and render the designs. I also change 2D freehand jewellery design to 3D format and convert CAD drawings to prototyping units. With experience and the knowledge on how the process of bespoke jewellery services operate, I researched about the jewellery industry, particularly bridal jewellery and found there was the need for custom designs and bespoke services. People want jewellery that is unique for a purpose. I found that traditional hand drawing and drafting methods are still utilised in designing jewellery, particularly at the conceptual stage. However, a shift is taking place to computer aided design programs. The traditionally hand illustrated jewel is typically translated into wax or metal directly by a skilled craftsman, whereas a CAD model is generally used as the basis for a 3D 'wax' pattern to be used in the rubber moulding or lost wax casting processes. This process triggered my entrepreneurial mindset into designing my own jewellery line using software. It was a big risk but I did it anyway.”
