Based in the heart of downtown Budapest, this small Hungarian jewellery brand is dedicated to creating high-quality, one-of-a-kind wedding jewellery. Run by Gertrúd Nagy and Richard Böde, their intimate collection is full of beautifully detailed engagement rings, ornate necklaces and one-off wedding bands. We chat with Richard to learn more about the creation of their brand.
How did your brand begin?
“More than 15 years ago, we started to design our own collections with the need to smuggle a little magic into the world of mass produced jewels. We want to make our customers happy and let our creativity roam wild.”
How is your jewellery made?
“Designing almost always starts with manual drawing and making drafts. Over the years, we’ve gathered numerous drafts to which we return and improve or create a brand new design. The nature of the design determines the technique.”

What are your core brand values?
“Our basic value is quality work without compromise. Our jewels are made in the highest professional quality regardless of the price.”
What inspires your designs?
“Initially, inspiration comes from nature: flowers, floral structures, organic shapes. Architecture has also become a great influence on our work.”
Do you use any specific crafting techniques?
“One of our signature designs is the manual baroque engraving, carried out by professionals who work to extremely high standards. This technique is hundreds of years old and can only be learned with 5-10 years practice.”

How do you ensure your jewellery is ethical and sustainable?
“We consider the minimisation of environmental damage very important. Unfortunately, when creating jewellery there are numerous harmful chemicals that need to be used. We got rid of our acid base soaking materials 10 years ago.”
Are there any celebrities you would love to see wearing your designs?
“We’ve designed jewels for several Hungarian celebrities, but our aim is to create a collection with a wider price range so our jewels can reach more and more people. We would absolutely love to design something unique for Jennifer Lawrence!”
Can you recall any client stories that will stay with your forever?
“One of our clients lost her engagement ring in the sea. A couple of snorkelers found it days later and her husband proposed to her again right there on the beach. This story is one of our favourites.”
How do you want people to feel when they’re wearing your jewellery?
“We mostly create wedding jewels so what else could we answer to this question than be happy! We hope they feel the importance of their relationship when they catch a glimpse of the jewel that we’ve made for them.”
If you weren’t designing jewellery, what would you be doing?
“There were outlooks in our lives towards other art branches. Gertrúd started her career as a folklore dancer. I worked as a graphic designer and photographer, and I still use these skills here at Affianced Fine Jewellery.”
"Bad quality products can be expensive but good quality products are never cheap."
Are there any jewellery designers you admire?
“We adore the works of some German and Dutch designers; their magic lies in their simplicity. For example, Angela Hübel or Mark Schneider. We would wear anything from them.”
What drew you to JewelStreet?
“When we saw the selection on JewelStreet, we were thrilled to become a member of this group. They choose unique designers with excellent taste from all over the globe, covering the palette of professional jewellery making.”
What’s your favourite quote?
“Bad quality products can be expensive but good quality products are never cheap.”
What’s your favourite TV series to binge-watch?
“Game of Thrones. We would love to design jewels for this production.”
