Whilst visiting a beach a few years ago with her son, Eva Mautner realised that she felt the same way about creating jewellery as she did when she was a child. Born and raised in San Francisco during the 60s, Eva spent her childhood collecting objects that she could transform into jewellery, be it a stone from the beach or bead from her local bead store.

Today, Eva continues to collect beach stones, glass and gems to transform them into rustic, one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery.

How did your brand begin?

“I was on the beach one day with my son, waiting patiently while he was building a sand castle. I began to dig into the sand and discovered perfectly shaped stones. I suddenly felt inspired to take these beautiful, natural beach gems home and find a way to design the perfect everyday necklace.”

When did you first fall in love with jewellery?

“As a child, I always bought beads. I would sit for hours at the dining room table creating necklaces to give to my mother to wear. I dreamed of my next designs and even made beads from apple seeds and any object I could find. At that point, I knew this was my passion.”

How is your jewellery made?

“All my jewellery is handmade from natural beach stones and gems from around the globe. I use the finest gold filled and sterling silver components and everything is nickel and lead-free.”

What are your core brand values?

“To inspire women to feel strong, confident and follow their passion.”

What inspires your designs?

“My designs are mostly inspired by shapes and colours that I see in nature, art and architecture.”

"Before I began designing jewellery I was an illustrator and painter."

If you hadn't become a designer, what would you be doing?

“Before I began designing jewellery I was an illustrator and painter. I still love to paint, but am fully content as a jewellery designer.”

How do you want someone to feel when they wear your jewellery?

“I want them to feel a sense of freedom and confidence. They have chosen the piece for its uniqueness and I want that to come through in how they feel when they wear it.”

What's the best piece of advice you've been given?

“A piece of advice that I was given many years ago was to always ask questions. I've followed this ever since and it's honestly made all the difference.”

If you could travel to one place in the world right now, where would it be and why?

“I would travel to Greece. It has always been on my bucket list and I'm currently designing a new line of jewellery based on the island architecture.”

Where is your go-to meeting spot?

“A very special restaurant that's airy and has an high open ceiling. I often sit outside and it's beautiful. It's only open for breakfast and lunch so the light is great and it makes me feel happy and relaxed.”

"My vision in the next five years is to have a fully sustainable jewellery business."

How do you maintain a good work/life balance?

“I make sure to exercise, do Tai Chi, do yoga, meditate, enjoy friends and family, and eat well.”

What's your favourite quote?

"And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom" - Anais Nin.

How do you wind down after a long day?

“Cooking dinner is relaxing for me. It’s not only creative, but takes me out of my day and puts me into a different mindset. I have a small vegetable garden and I love to go outside and pick the vegetables for dinner.”

What are your plans for the future?

“I am very excited about the future. My plan is to grow my business and create new lines all the time. My vision in the next five years is to have a fully sustainable jewellery business.”
