Simone Brewster combines her architectural background with traditional jewellery making techniques to create bold, geometric jewellery. She uses London as her inspiration and makes all the jewellery by hand in her London studio. She wants her jewellery to bring confidence to the people who wear it. We chat to Simone to hear the story behind her collection.
How did your brand begin?
“I was on a visit to a wood yard and some sticks of dark wood caught my eye. I picked them up to investigate. They were so naturally beautiful that I decided I would make something with ebony to draw out its natural qualities. That experience led me to design my first collection of jewellery.”
What are your core brand values?
“My brand is interested in the woman who wears our pieces. We are totally committed to designing and creating pieces of jewellery that inspire confidence in women.”
“I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most multicultural cities in the world, London.”
What inspires your designs?
“I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most multicultural cities in the world, London. This means that I am constantly exposed to a wealth of cultures acting as a melting pot of creative inspiration. What is born out of this mix is something distinct.”
How is your jewellery made?
“The jewellery is handmade in my studio in London. I come from an architectural background, as well as a traditional jewellery making foundation, so the processes I have been exposed to in creating three-dimensional works of art are quite vast.”
Which celebrities would you would love to see wearing your designs?
“I think my jewellery is worn by a woman who is very comfortable with herself, but also very confident in defining her own personal style. Celebrities that set themselves apart from the crowd like Solange Knowles, or Iris Apfel.”
How do you want someone to feel when wearing your jewellery?
“Confident. My jewellery lends itself to confident women, but it also helps women feel confident in themselves. They get so many compliments that they also realise how special their individual style is, and how special they are too.”
If you could only wear one piece from your collection, which would it be?
“I use my hands so even though there are quite a few rings that I love wearing, such as the Metropolis Gold Prism Ring, I find it much easier to wear a necklace or pendant. For that reason, I would say the Metropolis Gold Column Pendant.”
“I love jewellery, but I am an artist at heart.”
If you weren’t designing jewellery, what would you be doing?
“I love jewellery, but I am an artist at heart. That means I create in many mediums, of which jewellery is one. The joy of understanding a material has led me to work in wood and stone, so I suppose my other dream job would be a sculptor.”
How do you ensure you have a good work/life balance?
“At different times we need different things to feel in balance. The best way for me to stay in balance is not to be strict about my routine, but to instead stay in tune with myself on a daily basis and respond as necessary.”
