Jewellery is a way of life for Katarina Cudic, and one that she can’t imagine changing. She grew up watching her father creating jewellery in his workshop and after studying Art History she went on to train at the prestigious Le Arti Orafe school in Florence in 2000. Jewellery is Katarina’s mean of artistic expression, voicing her thoughts, emotions and dreams - never merely decoration. Her designs have a strong aesthetic, avoiding boundaries and limitations wherever possible, and instead embracing experimentation and innovation. Many of her pieces explore ancient crafting techniques, giving special attention to textured surfaces and the dramatic opposed colours of metals. We chat with Katarina about creating unrepeatable jewellery, why inspiration is everywhere and learning not to give up.
How did your brand begin?
“I have never loved definitions and boundaries. Therefore, there were no decisions or beginnings. I’ve been in the jewellery business since forever. I just started making jewellery for me and then gradually for others - and so the story continues!”
When did you first fall in love with jewellery?
“I grew up watching my father in his workshop. So, jewellery has become my daily life and the media through which I express my thoughts and emotions. My decision to finish at the prestigious jewellery school in Florence, Le Arti Orafe, was crucial for further development.”
"Jewellery has become my daily life and the media through which I express my thoughts and emotions."
What inspires your designs?
“It's really not just a phrase that 'inspiration is all around us'. I like to give particular attention to the history of jewellery, which is absolutely evident in my work. On the other hand, the working process itself is a huge inspiration for me.”
How is your jewellery made?
“All pieces from my workshop are 100% handmade by hands and with love. Using recycled silver and gold, our goldsmiths use bench techniques that result in unrepeatable and unique pieces.”

If you could only wear one piece from your collection, which would it be?
“Those people around me, know that I feel almost naked without huge cuffs and rings. Why am I obsessed with hands? I want to celebrate the creation and the role that hands have in creating jewellery.
How do you want someone to feel when they wear Katarina Cudic jewellery?
“Unique and different.”
What's the biggest style mistake you've ever made?
“Oh, I’ve made a lot and I’m sure I’m still making them sometimes! I am still young for such conclusions, so maybe ask me this again in a couple of years…”
"Over the years, I've learned not to give up, but instead to take a rest."
If you hadn't become a designer, what would you be doing?
“Sincerely, I have never thought about that. That’s probably way I am still in the jewellery business. Over the years, I've learned not to give up, but instead to take a rest.”
What drew you to JewelStreet?
“First of all, a professional approach to designers and brands, which means a lot to me. Then, the number and variety of designers that you work with, and guaranteed commitment and success.”
