T-Gonzalez Fine Art Photography, founded by Thierry Gonzalez, creates unique wildlife and landscape ultra high-resolution fine art prints. T-Gonzalez Fine Art Photography provides distinctive photographic prints along with a message to support and value the planet and natural world around us.

Thierry chats to JewelStreet about the history of his brand, inspiration, brand values and much more!

How did your brand begin?

After 10 years as artistic director in the graphic design agency that I've founded, I had a strong desire for change. It was from the top of the mountains in New Zealand in 2017 that I found the strength to change the course.

Having discovered a passion for fine art photography, I decided to sell my company with 18 employees and 2 years later, I found myself in Africa in front of elephants, lions and giraffes, creating the works of art that constituted my new career as a naturalist photographer.

Values are really important to us at JewelStreet. What are your core brand values?

Integrity, thoroughness, courtesy, passion and dedication.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your designs?

In nature. Whether near or far from home. I have developed a sense of constant observation which leads me to find the beauty of animals and landscapes. Each season is full of treasures to discover. I also love to read and watch animal documentaries to learn more about the different species but also to understand their behaviour and thus photograph them in the best possible conditions.

How do you ensure your artwork is ethical and sustainable?

For me, it is non-negotiable to compromise on animal welfare or on the pollution of a landscape. My duty is to remind the urban community of the beauty and fragility of the flora and fauna, so I must set an example myself. I made the decision to sell my works of art only on sustainable and ecological materials rather than encouraging overconsumption and waste.

How is your artwork made?

My photographs are taken with the legendary Sony A7Riv 62 megapixels and lenses that I have carefully chosen to get a maximum contrast, both in high and low light and the finest details.

It’s hard to explain what speaks to a person from a photograph, art is a complex concept that we continuously learn from. For my part, here is the recipe for my best shots: I prepare meticulously for each outing, I photograph with a specific objective in mind, I only use the best photographic equipment, I arm myself with patience and determination to be in the right place at the right time, and at the precise moment when each click is magic and the hair standing on my arms, I let art and emotion do their work.

When I finally complete the work I've put all my heart into, it is a great pride to see the fruit of my work printed on the most high-end material that respects my high standards but also my values.

Are there any celebrities you would love to see buying your prints?

Leonardo Dicaprio. He's one of my favourite actors. But above all, I admire the extraordinary efforts he is making to alert people to the plight of the planet. He is a man who uses his popularity for a good cause!

How do you want someone to feel having your artwork hung on their wall?

I would like them to feel close to nature. The hectic pace of life in the city makes us so easily forget the beauty of our planet. Seeing my works, I would like people to appreciate nature more, to enjoy it more often and to make efforts to protect it.

I also send human messages in my works. Animals often exhibit a particular quality that humans should emulate. Who does not feel inspired by the courage of a Lion ... by the wisdom and loyalty of an elephant ... by the grace and freedom of a horse galloping in immaculate snow?

We all have ideals, personal goals, and if any work of mine can help someone to stay motivated, to strive to be who they want to be, then I'll be a fulfilled artist!

Do you have any exciting future plans and where do you see your brand in 5 years?

Several trips are on my wish list! Spain to honour the land of my ancestors. Kenya, Tanzania and Namibia to complete my work on Africa, this exceptional continent. Iceland to share unique landscapes according to my vision of the world.

After a year and a half, I found myself where I would have liked to be in 5 years. So I replace ambition with gratitude and let life surprise me!

What music do you play in the studio whilst you’re working?

Coldplay, Ludovico Einaudi, U2, Movie songs, Norah Jones, Gipsy Kings, Lindsey Stirling

If you could only have one artwork from your collection, which one would it be and why?

Perfection from the Legend of Freedom told by Horses Collection. This is the centrepiece of my most prestigious collection.

I thought for so long about how I was going to capture this photo that was all drawn in my head. In the field, I had to arm myself with patience, with extraordinary physical efforts. After several days in the blizzard, I had to fight my own reasoning and change my method to get to capture this totally unique photo.

If you could travel to one place in the world right now, where would it be and why?

I would travel to New Zealand. In 2017, I left part of my heart there. I felt so close to nature at that moment. I've also learned there to live more simply and to appreciate the little things in life. This country has some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet and I have to capture its beauty with my high-end equipment once again.
