In 2014, Camilla Samuelsen followed her dream and founded the brand Libelula Jewellery. Libelula Jewellery is named after the Spanish word for dragonfly, which is Camilla’s favourite animal. Based in Oslo, Norway, Camilla is inspired by nature, travel and art, and works with Spain’s most skilled goldsmiths, to create striking pieces for the everyday woman. Collaborating with Spanish goldsmiths, Camilla loves seeing how her drawing and designing comes to life in jewellery.

Libelula Jewellery’s pieces are made from quality materials and certified gemstones, using 18 karat gold, diamonds, morganites, sapphires and more. All of Camilla’s jewellery is lovingly and carefully designed and made into beautiful and timeless pieces, to be cherished forever and passed down from generation to generation.

How did your brand begin?

I am educated in economics and worked in finance for many years, until i decided it was time to follow my dream and work with something creative. I started Libelula in 2014 and have loved every day since.

Is there anyone in particular who has heavily influenced/guided you as a designer?

My grandmother. A true aesthetic who always let me borrow her clothes, shoes, jewellery and makeup.

Values are really important to us at JewelStreet. What are your core brand values?

I want to make timeless jewellery that can be given to generations to come.

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

I get inspired by nature, travelling, art, colours and beautiful women I see on the street.

How is your jewellery made?

All the jewellery is handmade in Spain. I use 18kt gold and precious stones like diamonds, sapphires, morganites, etc.

Tell us about some of your most inspiring clients, or bespoke commissions.

The everyday girl is my most inspiring client. The woman who has saved to buy herself a special piece of jewellery. I love the stories my clients tell me about why they decided to buy that particular piece.

If you could only wear one piece from your collection, what would it be and why?

The petite Oliva ring. I wear them every day. They are so tiny, but elegant and I cannot feel them on my finger.

Do you have any exciting future plans and where do you see your brand in 5 years?

Libelula is now represented in Copenhagen, Sweden, Paris and London. I hope to also sell my jewellery in Milan, Barcelona and Amsterdam within the next few years.

What's the best piece of advice you've been given? (And have you actually used it?)

It’s advice from my grandmother, and it is excellent advice both for business and life. The advice is: “it's not a tragedy, it’s just life”. I have told myself this quote many times when things has not worked out the way I wanted them to.

Where is your go-to meeting spot?

Eckers, the lunch spot just around the corner of my studio.

How do you ensure you’ve got a good work/life balance?

I start every work day with a work out - this is very important for my mental and physical health. Then I leave the office at 3pm to have time to make a homemade dinner for my family and to have an afternoon with them. I work again from 8 pm.

What meal is your signature dish?

Definitely my spaghetti bolognese. It’s my mother’s recipe.
