Designer Lexi Cannon is a passionate designer who brings simple yet distinctive ideas to life using expert crafting techniques. Lexi has always been a keen artist and began designing jewellery in her spare time. After receiving interest in her designs, she pursued her dream and starting designing and creating handcrafted pieces full time in her studio just outside of Bristol.
Primarily using silver and copper wire and sheets, Lexi creates stunning oxidised textures and statement jewellery, taking the simple to the extravagant. She incorporates colour into her pieces through gemstones, like turquoise, aventurine and opal.
How did your brand begin?
I guess it all started when people began showing an interest in what I was making and asking to either purchase it or have jewellery made for them.
When did you first fall in love with jewellery and knew you wanted to become a designer?
I started going to a jewellery course, just a couple of hours one evening a week. From the first two hours, I had fallen in love with it and knew it was what I wanted to do.
Where do you get inspiration for your designs?
I walk a lot and they tend to just pop into my head. I try and picture how I would make an item and how the finished piece would look being worn. Sometimes it falls into place easily, other times it’s a disaster.
How is your jewellery made?
It is made using silver (or copper) wire or sheet. Being cut to size or shape, formed, filed, soldered, filed some more and polished. I love using gemstones. Some of the colours and markings are just stunning.
If you could only wear one piece from your collection, what would it be and why?
I love the bangles. They're great to mix and match and I like the jingle sound.
If you hadn't become a designer, what would you be doing?
I was a postie before designing jewellery so would probably be doing that still. There are definitely worse jobs to have.
What music do you play in the studio whilst you’re working?
I normally have 6 types of music blaring out or my Spotify playlist is pretty extensive so I have that on shuffle. Always very loud. I love music!
How do you ensure you’ve got a good work/life balance?
I don't - I'm terrible. Once I sit at the bench hours can go by without me realising. My family are quickly learning to fend for themselves. I'm a terrible parent and girlfriend... and dog owner.
Winding down after a day in the studio is sometimes difficult for a designer, what do you do to help this process?
I drink wine...or gin!
Favourite series to binge-watch on Netflix?
Game of Thrones I love, and Stranger Things.
