At an early age, Dina El Gindi found a love for design, fashion and jewellery. Following this passion, she studied architecture and interior design at university. While completing her masters degree, she discovered 3D-printing and decided to create her own jewellery collection using this technique. From there, EL GINDI, the luxury and ethical jewellery brand was born.
Based in Germany, EL GINDI creates classic gold jewellery that underlines their customers natural beauty. Dina designs pieces that are inspired by the strong female members of her family, and her German-Egyptian background. All of EL GINDI’s pieces are produced using a combination of jewellery making techniques, including 3D-printing and casting. Dina is also passionate about ethical manufacturing and sustainability, and ensures she only uses recycled gold. Dina El Gindi chats to JewelStreet about her core brand values, the future of EL GINDI and why everyone should pursue their dreams now.
How did your brand begin?
During my master studies in architecture I came across 3D-printing. I've always loved fashion and jewellery - it came naturally to me to design and 3D-print my own jewellery collection. For me, there was no doubt that it had to be made of gold. The quality of genuine gold is undeniable.
Values are really important to us at JewelStreet. What are your core brand values?
I thrive to unite beauty and social awareness. I believe that feeling beautiful gives us power and strength. Making ourselves feel good should be connected to doing good! Ethical manufacturing and supporting great causes are our highest values.
Where do you get inspiration for your designs?
The strong women in my family are my inspiration. I design for the hard working and driven women they are. Like them, my jewellery is confident, modern and expressive, yet very elegant. The shapes are highly influenced by architecture and design.
How is your jewellery made?
All the pieces are designed digitally and 3D-printed. The printed model is then used to cast the jewellery piece in gold. The last finishes are made by hand. The manufacturing process is entirely undertaken in Germany.
How do you want someone to feel when they wear your jewellery?
I want my customers to feel strong, independent and elegant. I want her to believe that nothing is impossible and her ability to achieve her goals is endless. Her moment is now and nothing can stop her!
Do you have any exciting future plans and where do you see your brand in 5 years?
We will be launching new social initiatives soon and hope to expand them in the future. Furthermore, we hope to see the brand flourish and grow. We aim to excite new and existing customers all over the world in the course of time.
What's the best piece of advice you've been given? (And have you actually used it?)
Do what you love... now! I started this brand during my master studies and it was totally worth it. It is a lot of hard work but if you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work. It's always the right time to do what you love.
