Our proposal was low-key, but  was perfect for us, as an extravagant proposal would have felt out of place. We were painting our bedroom and listening to music, talking about how proud we were that we had bought our own place. We were talking about how hard we’d worked over the last year to make it our home, and how far we’d come in the seven years we’d been dating. When I turned around, he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Apparently he’d had the ring for months, but hadn’t found the right time to ask. It felt perfect!
