Last night, the 47th annual American Music Awards (AMAs) were held in the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. It was a record breaking night, with Taylor Swift becoming the most awarded artist with 29 AMAs, beating Michael Jackson’s record of 24. Rising star, Billie Eilish took home the Best New Artist award, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus won Best Rap Song with Old Town Road and Green Day celebrated their 25th anniversary, performing ‘Basket Case’ and ‘Father of All’.
Alongside the show stopping performances and moving speeches, every attendee pulled out all the stops and wowed on the red carpet. The predominant trends were an overload of sparkles (probably gearing up for the Christmas season!) and an abundance of neon. Neon green was our personal favourite, particularly Selena Gomez’s chic lime dress and Lil Nas X’s neon green double breasted suit and zebra patterned shirt and gloves. There were also many quirky outfits that steered away from the conventional. As always, Billy Porter stunned the red carpet in a Thom Browne gown and Stephen Jones Millinery headpiece. Billie Eilish brought her trademark style to the carpet in a full oversized Burberry coord, with a glitter headdress and shirt for more sparkle.
Take a look at the 5 best dressed at the AMAs 2019 and how to copy their jewellery.
Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night, taking home six awards, including Artist of the Decade, Artist of the Year and Best Album. Following a dispute over her music rights with Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta, Taylor definitely won in more ways than one this evening. While she had many incredible looks during the night, our favourite is her red carpet look. She wore a sparkly deep green gown with a thigh slit and central sash, paired with black boots, reminiscent of her former country style. She completed her ensemble with a pair of black hoops.
Lizzo may not have taken home any awards, but her performance was outstanding and she taught us all how to love ourselves better this year. We loved her loud and in charge red carpet look. Lizzo wore a one shoulder ruffled orange Valentino dress and Stuart Weitzman white heels. Her accessories were the star of the show, with a so-tiny-it-can’t-possibly-fit-anything-in-it purse and chunky white accessories. She wore asymmetrical white earrings and sparkling oversized rings to match her glittery nails.
Christina Aguilera took us back to the 80s with her over-the-top look. Her white sparkly dress boasted large shoulder pads, a Grace Jones-esque veil, a square chunky belt and embellished white jewellery to match. She layered up with excessive pearl chokers and pearl rings for every finger.
Actress, Katherine Langsford looked beautiful on the night, with a red ruffled dress and matching red eyeshadow. She accessorised with gold and ruby gems, with drops of gold running along her hairline, giving a very ethereal look. She paired this with a classy pair of drop earrings, featuring gold colours and ruby and pearl gemstones.
Singer, Dua Lipa attended the award show with her boyfriend, Anwar Hadid and gave off a pink Barbie vibe. She wore a bright pink Miu Miu gown, complete with a black embellishment on the side and paired with a slick blonde ponytail. Her jewellery was truly eye catching, with a diamond and emerald necklace and sparkling diamond bracelets.
