Nobahar Design is the jewellery brand of Persian-Italian artisan Sogand Nobahar. The brand is home to a bold and poignant collection of original designs. Each and every single one is inspired by Sogand’s own personal feelings, experiences, and memories of her homeland.
Sogand does not confine herself to any one discipline. She strongly believes that the true essence of her creativity comes from a mix of all talents. Therefore, she is an artist, a painter, a jeweller, a mathematician, a designer, an engineer, and much much more.
Embracing that which is unconventional is at the heart of Nobahar Design. The word “Nobahar” literally means “New Spring” and so indicates a rebirth and regrowth. Sogand is fascinated by this rejuvenation of life. The collection is about discovering a new way of seeing. Nobahar Design is set to change the way that individuals perceive their jewellery in current day.
How did your brand begin?
Nobahar Design is based on the concept of mix and match, which is the combination of tradition and innovation in every aspect: materials, design, and concepts. A new way of seeing and perceiving things, of interacting with the world around us and of building unique, identifying and expressive pieces
Values are really important to us at JewelStreet. What are your core brand values?
My core value is to retain the unconventional and original designs that come from my personal feelings & experiences. My motto: As Unconventional As It Is.
Where do you get inspiration for your designs?
I always start with a Macro & Micro research, and in the research process I can arrive to something that connects with my personality and feelings.
How is your jewellery made?
Step 1: Research & Development
Step 2: 3D Modeling
Step 3: Prototyping
Step 4: Quality and ergonomic control
Step 5: Final production
Step 6: Hand dyeing & finishing
Are there any specific manufacturing/crafting techniques you use?
I use Selective Laser Sintering.
How do you ensure your jewellery is ethical and sustainable?
Additive Manufacturing is an energy-efficient and waste-free technology. I started also to embrace the natural coloring which excludes any risk of allergy and is a totally eco-sustainable process.
Are there any celebrities you would love to see wearing your designs?
Rosanna Orlandi, Iris Apfel, Anna Wintour, Jenna Lyons, Carine Roitfeld, Natalie Portman, keira knightley, Tilda Swinton, Demi Moore, Olsen twins, L.Hatami, Meghan Markle, Blake Lively, Liya Kebede, Johnny Depp, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Laurie, Shahrukh Khan, and Mario Biondi.
How do you want someone to feel when they wear your jewellery?
I want them to feel the message that each design has to express. I want them to feel stronger, confident and different when wearing it.
What has been the highest and lowest point of your career so far?
My highest point until now was my 1st award for my first piece in march 2017, which was a great sign for me. My lowest point was when I was trying to enter into the really niche world of contemporary design jewelries.
If you could only wear one piece from your collection, what would it be and why?
I would wear the Rebirth Of Lotus cuff.
If you hadn't become a designer, what would you be doing?
I would be a Life Coach or the owner of small herbal tea shop with a lake view.
Do you work with any charities?
Yes. I donate a percentage of The Rebirth Of Lotus cuffs to shelters for victims of domestic violence in Iran & Italy.
What's the best piece of advice you've been given? (And have you actually used it?)
Believe in yourself (if I am here it means yes).
Are there any other designers whose work you particularly admire, and what jewellery is on your current wishlist?
Sure, I admire the work of Monica Castiglioni, Giorgio Vigna, Lynne MacLachlan, Evgeniia Balashova, Sogio Gongli, Julio Toledo, and Andra Lupu.
