The start of the New Year marks the start of Award Season and to kick it off, the 76th Golden Globes premiered on the 7th January. The red carpet was full of glitz and glamour and many awards were given out to deserved winners. It was an uplifting evening as well as one that championed diversity. Before I talk about the outfits and jewellery, let’s take a look at some of the stand out moments of the Golden Globes 2019.
Rami Malek took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and gushingly admitted his love for him. Although politics was avoided for the most part, Christian Bale thanked Satan after winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film, as his inspiration for Dick Cheney in Vice. The Brits were praised and awarded, with Olivia Coleman taking home Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Film, Richard Madden winning Best Actor in a Drama TV Series and Ben Whishaw won Best Supporting Actor in a Series.

The outfits and jewellery were just as dazzling and sparkling as the Golden Globe Awards themselves, so let’s look at the top 5 jewellery looks from the evening.
Lady Gaga in Lavender
Lady Gaga wowed at the awards, despite A Star is Born falling short. Although nominated for numerous awards, A Star is Born only took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, with The Shallows, an award that Gaga openly wept over receiving. Lady Gaga was the star of the show, wearing a strapless lavender dress, with over-sized poofy sleeves and a long train. Her hair matched her dress in colour and was swept up into a Cinderella-esque bun. Her dress stole the show but her jewellery was just as mesmerising. She wore a statement diamond necklace, complete with a centrepiece gemstone. To copy Gaga’s look, pair an elaborate silver statement necklace with an up-do to really show off that sparkle.
It’s all about Sandra Oh
Sandra Oh was the ultimate winner at the Golden Globes this year. She presented the awards show alongside Andy Samberg, becoming the first Asian woman to present the awards show. She went on to win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama for her performance in Killing Eve, becoming the first Asian woman to do so in 40 years. She tearfully thanked her parents, a heartfelt and emotional moment for everyone watching. She had multiple looks, with a V neck red dress, a high-shoulder white dress and her white with gold sleeves acceptance dress. All her looks were stunning and unforgettable and her jewellery stuck to the same colour among the dress changes. Silver jewellery was her statement, with bold layered silver bracelets and dangling drop and hoop earrings.
OTT with Billy Porter
Billy Porter really knows how to make an entrance! Nominated for Best Actor in a Drama TV Series for Pose, he owned the red carpet with his grey suit adorned in flowers and sequins, his jazzy dress shirt and his pink-lined cape embezzled with floral and shiny accents. Whirling his cape around as he strutted up and down the carpet, he looked the OTT part. Get his look by covering your coat, jacket and even trousers, with floral brooches and colourful lapel pins.
Maya Rudolph’s proposal
Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler presented the award for Best Screenplay. Their ‘bit’ before the nomination announcements saw Rudolph present a black box to Amy Poehler containing a sparkling red engagement ring. Poking fun at Glenn Weiss’ proposal to his girlfriend during his Emmy acceptance speech, Amy and Maya jokingly put their heads together as they admitted their love for each other, with Amy declaring “Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes!” If you were moved by Maya’s proposal, get down on one knee and indulge in a gorgeous red ring. Choose from ruby or garnet and steal the show, like Maya and Amy did.
Geometric with Camilla Belle
Brazilian-American actress Camilla Belle wowed in a royal blue dress with turquoise green accents. Her bold green eyeshadow was smokey and dramatic and her earrings completed the look, with a geometric drop pattern. A subtle sparkle, the design was intricate and shimmering and perfectly complimented her bold dress. To steal her style, go for a pair of geometrical earrings and complete the look with slicked back hair and a bold eye.
