London Fashion Week Men’s and Pitti Uomo set the foundations of a new and exciting landscape for menswear. The street style exhibited on the streets of London marked a bold entry into 2019 in terms of men’s jewellery. We saw unconventional earrings and bold brooches, among other jewellery items which challenged the status quo surrounding men’s fashion (see the looks here). Today is the last day of Milan Fashion Week Men’s. Italian style has always been the trailblazer of fashion within the realm of menswear. The long established fashion houses of Armani and Prada were among various emerging talents gracing Italy with their new creations. Except a few statement chains from Prada and Moscino’s Fellini-inspired Roman coin jewellery, many collections remained modest on the jewellery front. That was until the presence of Versace was felt.

Regarding Versace’s AW19 menswear show, the legendary Donatella discusses the philosophy of the collection:

‘The #VersaceFW19 men’s collection reflects on the modern concept of man and on an idea of masculinity that pushes the boundaries and breaks the rules of menswear by challenging notions and stereotypes’.

And, boy, did they challenge stereotypes - with elegance, power, and conviction. As we predicted during London Fashion Week Men’s, statement brooches, unconventional earrings, and strong neck game are now - officially - on trend. Versace’s runway took these trends one step further. The show heavily featured black leather bracelets, layered pendants, and incredible bulldog clip brooches. Any designer who turns office stationary into wearable jewellery items is worth keeping an eye on. Inspired by the fearless jewellery showcased by Versace, discover the jewellery items that will keep you looking sharp this year.

As their caption states, Versace’s AW19 collection aimed to encourage men to express themselves through fashion choices. The play between leathers, silks and sequins allows men to envision their style through unconventional materials and shapes. The same can be said for jewellery. Both male and female models sported hyper edgy bulldog clip brooches on the runway. The masculine shape in the form of the female-dominated jewellery piece made a visual comment on the play between masculinity and femininity in jewellery. Usurp the politics of jewellery with a brooch that will make you stand out from the crowd.

The single earring is currently man’s best friend. This is one of the hottest jewellery trends to grace men’s and women’s fashion alike. Seeing the single hoop adorn most male models on Versace’s runway proved that single earring styling is here to stay. As you can see, Versace’s collection was bold, punchy and colourful. But single earrings are a key item for your wardrobe purely because they looks in-keeping with almost any outfit. Style with suits, t-shirts, at the beach, in the city. You will never look bad when wearing a single earring.
