British jewellery designer, Amanda Cox, has been working with JewelStreet for over four years. Selling primarily to the trade and lacking an ecommerce enabled website, JewelStreet has provided Amanda with a stress-free solution to selling jewellery online. Watching her sales grow year on year and rekindling her once lost connection with customers, Amanda is thrilled with her experience selling on JewelStreet.
Amanda Cox has always enjoyed making things, ever since she was a child. But it wasn’t until her sister returned home from the Isle of Wight music festival in 1970, covered in jewellery, that she was inspired to start making jewellery. Amanda began making designs from cheap wire sourced from a local iron monger and selling them to school friends. She took her first order from a shop whilst on a family holiday to Cornwall in her early teens, and has been selling her jewellery ever since.
“I worked in the trade to begin with, in Birmingham’s jewellery quarter. Then I went on to London to open my first workshop in Hatton Garden in the early eighties, selling my designs on my weekend stall at Covent Garden market.”
“I worked in the trade to begin with, in Birmingham’s jewellery quarter. Then I went on to London to open my first workshop in Hatton Garden in the early eighties, selling my designs on my weekend stall at Covent Garden market. I then opened a shop in Plymouth in the mid-eighties and did my first trade show in London in 1989. I taught at the Art College in Plymouth for around 9 years, before deciding to move up to Yorkshire. This was the point I decided to go back to doing my own work again. Only this time, I was going to concentrate on selling to the trade.” Amanda’s designs are classic, affordable and all handcrafted by her. Having grown up in Devon and now living in Yorkshire, nature has always been a huge part of Amanda’s life and a huge inspiration on her jewellery.
Amanda doesn’t sell her jewellery through her own website, so JewelStreet has been her online solution. Allowing her to sell her designs to the public without having to go through the stress of setting up an ecommerce enabled website. “I’ve been mainly selling to shops and galleries all over the country. It’s only since I’ve been with JewelStreet that I’ve started selling to the public again, which has been really nice.” JewelStreet was recommended to Amanda via word of mouth from a fellow designer already working with us. “It was actually at a trade show and I was sharing a stand with a fellow jeweller who was already working with JewelStreet, he said he thought it would be a good idea if I joined too. I liked the concept and when I looked JewelStreet up I loved the look of the website and the quality of the jewellery. So, I decided to join. Four years on, I would definitely recommend JewelStreet to fellow designers.”

Since working with JewelStreet, Amanda’s online sales have gone from strength to strength, and JewelStreet remains the only online marketplace she sells through. “Sales have grown year on year, it’s been really great!” And she’s not just selling to UK customers, JewelStreet’s global audience means that Amanda’s sales are worldwide, including customers from Australia, America and Germany. “I like the fact I can sell my jewellery globally and JewelStreet takes the headache of exporting and credit card payments away. They handle all of that, so I can just concentrate on making the work. It takes away all the worries.” When it comes to the functionality of using her boutique, Amanda has found it very straightforward. “I like the ease of using the admin control panel, where you can upload all your own product information and alter it really easily. I like being able to control my stock too. It’s all incredibly smooth running.”
“I had a really difficult year a couple of years ago when my mum died, and I was so touched that the team at JewelStreet sent me a bunch of flowers.”
More than just a number
Designers are so much more than just a number to us at JewelStreet, we pride ourselves on having a direct relationship with each and every one. “I have to say that your Concierge department is absolutely fantastic. Courtney is my main contact and he makes me laugh so much with his banter – he’s great.” We celebrate our designer’s successes, but also support them through testing times too. “I had a really difficult year a couple of years ago when my mum died, and I was so touched that the team at JewelStreet sent me a bunch of flowers. I was really moved by that.”
“When customers ask if they can buy from me personally I put them onto my JewelStreet boutique.”
It’s not just our relationship with designers that we want to nurture, but also the relationship between the customer and the designer. Having a direct relationship with customers is hugely important to Amanda. “Another thing I like about JewelStreet is the fact it allows me to feel more in touch with the customer. When I had my shop, I had that personal contact with the customers, which I don’t get when I’m in a workshop all day and only selling to the trade. So, I absolutely love that JewelStreet pass on feedback to me from customers who have bought my designs. I have fantastic relationships with all my stockists, but don’t get to connect with the end customer - with JewelStreet I can have both. It’s lovely.”
