Dutch designer, Joke Quick first realised her love for jewellery when she was a young girl, mesmerised by the gems in her grandfather’s collection. He was a diamond trader and a jeweller, and it was his talent that inspired Joke to follow in his footsteps and launch her very own line of jewellery. Joke’s designs are an expression of herself and the way she thinks.
From the glittering combination of emeralds and diamonds to the warm hue of tourmaline and fire opal, her vibrant pieces are scattered with a colourful array of precious and semi-precious gemstones. We chat to Joke about her jewellery being a sparkling travel companion, why good designers are constantly influenced by the world around them, and working with volunteer services to improve the lives of women.
How did your brand begin?
“My brand began with me. It’s an expression of who I am and how I think. I have never felt the need to hide behind another name. It is the simple expression of how I live and feel. I want to create and express myself, and beautiful materials like gold, silver and diamonds give me that opportunity.”

When did you first fall in love with jewellery?
“As a young girl, I was mesmerised by the collection of stones and gems my grandfather possessed. I used to sit close by and watched, while he worked. He was a diamond trader and jeweller. It definitely affected my life and my destiny.”
What are your biggest influences?
“Good designers are constantly influenced by people and beauty around them. I strongly believe that we are on this world to transform, to change, to create beauty. To do so, we need to reach out and absorb influences around us.”

Describe your jewellery…
"Colour and contrast, story and beauty is the essence of my work. Colour and contrast are quintessential. Beauty is self-explaining. I like the excitement - the double entendre that makes a ring not only an accessory, but a sparkling travel companion.”
"I am a designer, there’s no changing your fate."
If you weren’t designing jewellery, what would you be doing?
“I am a designer, there’s no changing your fate. I express myself through my collections and pieces of jewellery. I’m convinced that in the absence of those materials, I would still be a designer, but of another sort.”
Do you work with any charities?
“I spend a lot of my free time in a service club: Soroptimist Antwerpen Anthos. Soroptimist International is a worldwide volunteer service organisation for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women.”
