Jewelry has always been a passion for Ukrainian designer Krista Trpkovsi, but it wasn’t until 2015 that she made her passion a reality. She decided it was now or never and began working with talented artisans to turn her sketches into prototypes. From on-trend lariats to statement rings, her dainty and modern designs are all handcrafted from 14kt yellow gold and precious gemstones.
We chat with Krista about incorporating her Ukrainian heritage into her jewelry, donating a portion of proceeds to breast cancer charities and what music you will find her jamming to in the studio.
How did Imperfect Grace begin?
“Imperfect Grace is a realization of a life-long dream. In the fall of 2015, I was at a point in my life where I knew if I didn't pursue my dream then, I wouldn't have the opportunity to do so again. So, I partnered with a talented team of artisans and decided to turn my sketches into prototypes.”
"I was at a point in my life where I knew if I didn't pursue my dream then, I wouldn't have the opportunity to do so again."
When did you first fall in love with jewelry?
“My obsession with jewelry developed at a very young age - I collected it, obsessed over it, and created my own designs out of my grandmother's old jewelry. Designing and making jewelry has always been my creative outlet.”
"I was born and raised in Ukraine until my family immigrated to metro Detroit."
Where do you get inspiration for your designs?
“One of the biggest sources of inspiration is my heritage - I was born and raised in Ukraine until my family immigrated to metro Detroit. I wanted to pay homage to my roots by incorporating patterns of Ukrainian embroidery into my designs.”
How do you want someone to feel when they wear one of your pieces?
“Beautiful and confident in her own skin - that's very important to me. I design for the modern woman who is always on the go, so my goal is to create wearable, high quality pieces that give her the opportunity to express her individual style and personality.”
Do you work with any charities?
“Yes, a portion of all proceeds is donated to various breast cancer organizations that focus on research as well as patient care.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“’The world belongs to the brave’ is one of the best pieces of advice I've ever been given and it comes from my dear mom. It has really helped me to pursue things out of my comfort zone and grow as an individual as well as a business owner.”
What music do you have playing in your studio?
“My music selection truly spans the gamut and depends on what I'm working on. When I need to focus, I love listening to Norah Jones, Melody Gardot and Amy Winehouse. And I love to jam to Pharrell, Gwen Stefani, Maroon 5, and John Legend.”
