Mitzi Broadbent, the founder of MitziRocks, strives to make gorgeous, unique pieces for all of her clients – she said: “I want whoever is wearing my jewelry to feel buoyed by it. Jewelry always communicates something to the wearer, and I want it to make them feel cherished, happy, and confident.”
We spent 5 minutes with her to find out a little more:
How did your brand begin?
"My brand evolved from individual commissions. To begin with friends asked me to design and make bespoke pieces, and it seemed like a natural progression to develop a brand, Mitzi Rocks, which encompasses my work, values, sense of fun and movement. Wearing my jewelry you should feel like you rock!"
Values are really important to us at JewelStreet. What are your core brand values?
"Embedded in Mitzi Rocks is a commitment to design excellence, meticulously handmade pieces, ethically sourced materials, beautiful packaging and outstanding customer care and service. I strive to make gorgeous, unique jewelry for all of my clients."
Where do you get inspiration for your designs?
"Living in London definitely informs my designs. Inspiration often comes from the color and texture of the natural stones, geometric shapes, patterns and repeated forms in art, architecture and nature. I love solid and open structures and multiples!"
How is your jewelry made?
"All of my pieces are made using traditional silver and goldsmithing techniques such as forming, soldering, casting, setting, finishing and polishing. Everything is hand crafted, with fastidious attention to detail, in my South London studio."
Tell us about some of your most inspiring clients, or bespoke commissions.
"My first major commission was for a bridal necklace. It had to be perfect for the occasion, the bride and her bright red dress! The groom was my client and we worked collaboratively. It was a joyous process, they loved the finished necklace, and even sent me a wedding photograph of the bride!"
If you could only wear one piece from your collection, what would it be and why?
"The one piece of jewelry I always wear, is my Opia ring set with black and white diamonds. I actually have four! It is such a versatile piece, I can wear it as an eternity ring, or make it rock by stacking it with multiple bands and stones."
If you hadn't become a designer, what would you be doing?
"I can’t imagine a life without design! I do think that everyone is a designer, it’s just that some of us are lucky enough to work in this sphere. But if I wasn’t a jewelry designer/maker I would definitely be making other things in my everyday."
What's the best piece of advice you've been given? (And have you actually used it?)
"For me, the best piece of advice was from artist Grayson Perry. He said that artists struggling to find their creative voices should be tenacious and “stay on the bus”. Jewelry design and making is very exacting, and yes, I do follow his advice!"
What drew you to JewelStreet?
"JewelStreet is a stunning shop window for clients to see a huge range of beautiful jewelry from individual designers from all over the world. I love the fact that it is highly selective and global. I feel to be in the most wonderful company."
