Best jewels of the Met Gala 2017

Posted on

Dramatic trains, extreme headwear and a touch of nudity (courtesy of Kendall Jenner) stole the show at the 2017 Met Gala, which many are declaring as the most exciting Met Gala in years.

This is no doubt thanks to this year’s bold theme, which honoured avant-garde designer Rei Kawakubo of Commes des Garçons. Stars dialled up their looks and opted for adventurous attire, and we were treated to some showstopping looks that were at times sculptural and at other barely there. But no head-turning look is complete without some head-turning jewels to match, so here are our favourite jewellery looks from fashion’s biggest night.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra swept away the competition for best dressed at this year’s Met Gala. The beautiful Bollywood actress donned a fitted Ralph Lauren trench-coat gown with the collar popped and striking silver accessories. Chunky silver rings were paired with fluid, sculptural drop earrings. Who knew a trench could look so chic?

riri

Rihanna

If you could bet on anyone to make a fashion statement, it would be Rihanna, and she certainly didn’t disappoint this year. Her layered, flower-like Comme des Garçons dress was a breath of fresh air, but if you could take your eyes off the sculptural delight you may have noticed her jewels. The fashion icon wore pieces from the “Rihanna Loves Chopard” capsule collection she co-designed with the Swiss luxury brand.

merada kerr

Miranda Kerr

Has Miranda Kerr ever stepped out looking anything but classy? This year she was the belle of the ball as she twirled down the red carpet showing off the strapless floral Oscar de la Renta gown. She teamed the look with a pair of silver Louboutin’s and an abundance of diamonds from Cartier. A glittering pair of diamond studs were matched with several diamond-encrusted bangles from the famed jewellers, all stacked on the same wrist for maximum impact.

Cassie Ventura

Cassie

And the cutest couple award goes to Sean “Diddy” Combs and Cassie. Diddy took his admiration for Cassie to a whole new level by laying down on the Met’s sprawling staircase to watch his girlfriend turn heads. Her black On Aura Tout Vu gown with a huge, spikey train was accented with some seriously dramatic and sparkling ear cuffs. And talking of dramatic earrings, we fell in love with Adwoa Aboah’s out-of-this-world custom-made ear piece, which was made up of vintage bits and pieces sourced from vintage markets in London.

Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski

The 25-year-old model and actress floated down the red carpet in a Marc Jacobs dress that mermaids would be jealous of. The shimmering sequin dress in a striking blue-green palette recalls Van Gogh’s famous “The Starry Night” painting. But we were more interested in her incredible hoop earrings, intricately decorated with a rainbow of gemstones.
