The Cannes Film Festival is an annual delight of custom-made gowns, exciting films premieres and, of course, extravagant jewellery. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the French Riviera, this year the 12-day long, invitation-only festival is celebrating its 70th year of previewing new films, of all genres, from all round the world.
Leading jewellery houses, such as Bulgari, Chopard and Piaget, lead the way on the red carpet, with celebrities finishing their high fashion looks with some of the world’s most opulent and statement jewels.
The American model floated down the red carpet in a slinky custom Twinset dress. Whilst the barely-there champagne gown featured a tantalising thigh-high slit, it was her necklace that stole the show. Part of Bulgari’s Heritage collection, the incredible medallion-esque design is set with a vibrant combination of diamonds, rubies and an incredible cabochon emerald.
Adriana Lima ruled the red carpet from day one of festival. The figure-hugging white strapless number looked incredible on the Brazilian supermodel, but our eyes were instantly drawn to her statement choker around her neck. Dripping in diamonds, the Chopard necklace featured an extraordinary number of white diamonds, totalling 163.85 carats.
The 20 year-old model stepped out at the festival’s opening ceremony in a risqué Dior gown, that proved to be more revealing than she’d first hoped. The soft pink silk gown, with a sweetheart neckline and daring split, was topped off with a magnificent (and enormous) 180-carat sugarloaf cabochon sapphire necklace from Bulgari’s high jewellery collection. The dazzling blue stone was accented by over 28 carats of pavé diamonds.
Victoria’s Secret Angel, Sara Sampaio stunned the red carpet in a dramatic, embellished red gown by Zuhair Murad. And a dramatic dress rightly deserves some dramatic jewellery. Wearing her hair up to ensure all the focus was on her jewellery and gown, Sara sparkled in a pair of beautiful diamond drop earrings by Swiss luxury jeweller, De Grisogono. The earrings were paired with a white diamond and ruby ring and a white gold Florinda bracelet.
The Cannes Film Festival first-timer gave British heritage brand, Mulberry, a red-carpet moment. The single-shoulder floral dress is from Johnny Coca's fall 2017 collection for the brand, and shows just how much the primarily leather goods brand is trying to push into ready-to-wear. Amber matched the oversize floral pattern of the dress with a regal, yet dainty diamond choker by LA fine jewellery designer, Anita Ko.
As an ambassador for Piaget, it was no shock that Jessica Chastain was chosen to debut a piece from the Swiss brand’s soon-to-be-released collection, Sunlight Journey. The Art Deco-inspired ruby and diamond necklace complimented the colourful embroidery on her striking strapless black gown by Alexander McQueen.
