Ring Jewellers create made-to-order rings designed to fit the occasion, and your life, perfectly. With a background in product design and experience working in an antique jewellery store, Stuart Stanley wanted to combine the two and decided to create his own bespoke jewellery shop in 2005.
Based in Brighton, they work with the highest quality fine metals and precious stones to forge beautiful bespoke rings, engagement rings and wedding rings. We chat with Stuart about working in the trade for 20 years, designing jewellery for Holly Willoughby and the philosophy he lives his life by.
How did RING Jewellers begin?
“I learned the trade whilst working in an antique jewellery store, but my background was in product design. I loved the idea of linking the two and opening my own bespoke jewellery shop. Then, in 2005 when a previous employer offered me the chance to take the lease of his shop, RING Jewellers was born!”
When did you fall in love with jewellery?
“I fell in love with jewellery when I was working in an antique jewellery shop just around the corner from where my shop is now. It was the gemstones that fascinated me the most.”
What are your core brand values?
“At RING Jewellers, we believe in high quality craftsmanship at an affordable price along with excellent customer service.”
How do you want someone to feel when they wear your jewellery?
“When a customer wears our jewellery, we want them to feel proud and for the piece to evoke happy memories, not just of the occasion it commemorates, but also of the whole experience of commissioning the piece.”

What inspires your designs?
“The inspiration for our designs sometimes comes from customers' stories and briefs. Other times we design a piece of jewellery around a specific gemstone so the ideas come from the characteristics of the gemstones themselves.”
How is your jewellery made?
“Our jewellery is made in our local Brighton workshops using a range of techniques. As well as traditional jewellery making, we also use wax carving to create intricate detail. Another more contemporary technique we use is laser engraving. This also enables us to create detail that, in years gone by, would have been impossible.”
How do you source your materials?
“After working for 20 years in the trade, we are lucky enough to have friends who travel the world in search of rare and beautiful conflict-free gemstones.”
Have any celebrities worn your designs?
“We are lucky enough to have already had some of our dream clients actually commission and wear our jewellery. Recently Holly Willoughby wore a stunning yellow diamond halo cluster ring that we made for her for the National Television awards.”

How do you ensure your jewellery is ethical and sustainable?
“RING Jewellers is Fairtrade gold accredited. We also liaise with our suppliers to find out about how much of our precious metals are recycled. Our gemstone suppliers also provide us with a non-conflict guarantee.”
Can you recall a particularly special commission?
“A sad memory...A terminally ill man commissioned rings for his wife and kids. He used to sign notes to them in a graffiti style which we laser engraved on to 3 contemporary signets. The commission was through a friend but he called to thank me.”
What’s been the highest point of your career so far?
“The highest point of my career was the shop's 10-year anniversary. I took a rare quiet moment to think about all of the huge brands that had fallen by the wayside over the past decade. It made me think we must be doing something right!”
If you weren’t designing jewellery, what would you be doing?
“I would be West Ham United’s goal keeper. Then I would wake up!”
“It's a cliché but "The customer is always right". I live by that philosophy.”
If you could travel to one place in the world right now, where would it be and why?
“Just around the corner to home because my baby daughter is there!”
If you were stranded on a desert island, which 3 books would you want with you?
“Yes man - Danny Wallace, Losing my Virginity - Richard Branson, & anything by Davis Sedaris.”
"I used to be a workaholic but becoming a father stopped that in its tracks!"
What drew you to JewelStreet?
“We loved the mix of designs on the site, whilst still keeping a contemporary theme. Also, the idea of exporting, which we haven't done on a large scale, appealed too.”
How do you ensure you’ve keep a healthy work/life balance?
“I used to be a workaholic but becoming a father stopped that in its tracks! I love being very hands on in the shop but my daughter stops me being at work too much.”
What are your plans for the future of RING Jewellers?
“We’re looking to increase our online presence over the next few years. This, along with creating more ranges for gents, is definitely the way I see us going.”
