Known for his elaborate metalwork, distinctive style and unparalleled craftsmanship, Alex Soldier counts the most stylish tastemakers, celebrities and organisations as clients and the jewellery trade has long praised him as a leader in the field. Based in New York City, Alex started out as a computer engineer and it wasn’t until he met his wife that he turned his innovative hand to jewellery.
He designs with a passion for distinction, using new techniques for decorating metal surfaces to achieve original textures and details that surpass the boundaries of traditional craftsmanship.
Where did you grow up and how has it influenced your designs?
“I grew up in the Ural Mountains, a place filled with natural beauty and plenty of natural resources. As a result, nature is one of the main sources of inspiration to my vision. We all come from nature and we all return to it, as it is who we truly are.”
What drove you to start your own jewellery line?
“I was computer engineer before jewellery, fascinated with artificial intelligence, since it was a fairly new and mysterious world, like space and the cosmos. I dreamed of building my own robot, but it all changed when I met my wife. She saw my drawings and attention to detail and inspired me to try my talents at jewellery. I didn't know anything about jewellery nor did I have any previous training in it. So, I went to the jewellery plant and asked for whatever position they had available. They assigned me that of an electrician, and in less than a year I became its chief designer.”

Where do you source inspiration for your designs?
“Life itself is an ultimate source of inspiration to me. I constantly work at my bench and my ideas often materialise through creative process, which never ceases to surprise me. Most of it comes from my imagination. As soon as an idea comes, I can visualise it in its 3D form in my head. Then I sit down and make a wax model. I only use sketchpad for clients when they ask to see a few variations of a design.”
Values are really important us at JewelStreet. What are your core brand values at Alex Soldier?
“I breathe life into all of my creations. Once I finish each piece, it’s as if it’s a new-born child, filled with love, light, kindness and beauty, and I'm ready to share it with the world. These are the inherent qualities that we contribute to humanity and make sure that all of our materials are responsibly sourced.”
"It’s like a Rubik’s Cube, with each piece dependent on the next to create the whole.”
How has your engineering background influenced your designs?
“My engineering background gave me a lot of technical knowledge and perspective. Every time I design, I envision the technical aspects as well as artistic composition before making a new piece. Each of my designs is made of several complex components that create a unique whole. I also invented my own tools with which I apply special decorative finishes unto the metal that were never done before. My jewellery and sculptures are made of so many intricate components that you often need a magnifying glass to be able to see all of them. Each design is about structure, proportion, detail, texture and composition. It’s like a Rubik’s Cube, with each piece dependent on the next to create the whole.”
How do you source your gemstones?
“Our stone buyer finds the best stones from all over the world and always makes sure that they adhere to highest standards of responsible mining.”
Who are the clients you are most proud of?
“I love all of my clients, as their individual and distinct personalities reflect in my designs. Everyone has their own unique story to tell.”
"I think that jewellery is an ultimate expression of love and affection."
How do you want someone to feel when they wear a piece of Alex Soldier jewellery?
“Happy, inspired, beautiful.”
What’s the most meaningful piece of jewellery you’ve ever received?
“My grandfather’s wedding band that has an inscription to him from my grandmother: “I love you, my dear”. I think that jewellery is an ultimate expression of love and affection.”
What does the future hold for Alex Soldier?
“The creative process is always a mystery that can’t be predicted, but whatever the future holds, it will be anything but mundane.”
