Wheelthrown mug in toasty stoneware glazed in eau de nil silky glaze inside, half glazed exterior.
My perfect mug – I wanted to make a mug that I liked drinking tea from, that would look good in any kitchen and felt great to hold in the hand. It took many experiments to perfect this form – the edge of rim has to be right both in the thickness of the clay and the glaze that touches the lips.
I love the unexpected toasting of the clay – as the silky smooth glaze and raw pot fuse in the kiln, some magic occurs, tingeing the clay with a warm rich hue.
With small changes in the amounts of colouring oxide this glaze will vary from duck egg blue to cloud grey or a hint of green in eau de nil (as these are)
Can be matched with small bowls, dishes, teapots extra large tea or coffee cups and a range of small medium and large jugs.
All the pieces are hand thrown on a kick wheel, small variations in size and shape are part of this hand made process and the glazing is all by hand too so slight variations in tone and colour are a natural result. This adds to the unique character of each lovingly made item.
Can be used in a microwave, please take care as the piece can get warm
Can be washed in a dishwasher but you may prefer to hand wash them
